If you're shopping for custom mylar bags, you've probably noticed most suppliers want 1,000+ units and won't budge on minimums. We start at 100 pieces because we know brands testing new products or running limited drops don't need warehouse quantities.

Why Mylar Works

Mylar isn't just shiny plastic. It's a multi-layer laminate film that blocks oxygen, moisture, and light - the three things that degrade your product fastest. Cannabis brands use it for flower and edibles. Snack companies use it for jerky and nuts. Supplement makers use it for protein powders and capsules. The barrier properties keep products fresh 3-5x longer than standard poly bags.

Our mylar structures typically run 3.5 mil to 6 mil thickness. Thinner works fine for lightweight items like gummies or coffee. Heavier products or anything needing puncture resistance calls for 5-6 mil. We can build custom structures with specific barrier ratings if you need them.

Printing and Finishing

Full-color CMYK printing comes standard. Most brands go with rotogravure for runs over 5,000 units because the per-unit cost drops significantly. For smaller batches, we use digital printing - same quality, just slightly higher unit cost. Expect to pay $0.85-2.20 per bag depending on size and quantity.

Finish options include matte, gloss, or soft-touch coating. Holographic and metallic substrates cost about 15-20% more but make your product pop on shelves. Spot UV, embossing, and foil stamping are available for premium lines.

Functional Features

Standard features: resealable zip lock, tear notch, hang hole, bottom gusset for stability. Child-resistant zippers add about $0.15-0.30 per unit but are mandatory for many regulated products. We stock CR mechanisms that meet ASTM D3475 and 16 CFR 1700.20 standards.

Window options: clear poly windows or full-face transparent mylar. Windows add about $0.08-0.15 per bag. Degassing valves for coffee packaging run $0.12-0.18 each.

Sizing Guide

Common stock sizes we keep tooling for:

• 3.5" x 5" - single serving edibles, small hardware
• 4" x 6" - 1/8 oz cannabis, sample packs
• 5" x 8" - 1/4 oz to 1/2 oz, protein bars
• 6" x 9" - 1 oz products, snack bags
• 8" x 11" - bulk packaging, 2-4 oz capacity

Custom sizes start at 2" x 3" and go up to 18" x 24". Die costs for non-standard sizes run $180-350 but are waived on orders over 10,000 units.

Material Specifications

Standard structure: PET 12 micron / AL 7 micron / PE 75 micron. This gives you excellent barrier properties and heat-seal strength. For products that need extra protection, we offer:

• High-barrier EVOH structures (OTR less than 0.1 cc/m²/day)
• Metalized PET for moderate barrier without foil layer
• Clear multi-layer laminate for full product visibility

Turnaround Times

Digital printing: 7-12 business days after approval. Rotogravure: 25-35 days for first order, 15-20 days for reprints since we keep your cylinders. Rush service available for 20% surcharge - we can hit 5-day turnaround on stock sizes with digital printing.

Send us your artwork or rough concept. We'll provide a digital mockup within 24 hours. Once approved, we run a physical sample ($45-85 depending on complexity). After you sign off on the sample, we go to production. No hidden fees - our quotes include setup, printing, and shipping to one location.
