What are disposable bento boxes?
A disposable bento box is a one-use meal box divided into compartments so separate items travel in the same container without running together. The format comes from Japanese bento and is now used well beyond Japanese menus, for combination plates, tasting sets, office lunch drops and packed meal programs.
Because every Teal build is cut to a dieline rather than pulled from a fixed catalog, the compartment count and layout are yours to specify. A single tray, a two-up split, a three or four well layout, or a tray plus a separate insert are all dieline decisions. Do disposable bento boxes come with lids?
Yes. The lid is part of the dieline, not an afterthought, so you choose the closure when you send your spec. Teal builds lidded bento formats to order rather than stocking one fixed lid style.
Lid style is specified one of three ways:
- Separate lift-off lid. A second piece that caps the tray. Easy to print on its own and easy to stack in a prep line.
- Hinged one-piece lid. The lid is scored into the same blank as the tray, so there is a single item to store and a single item to fold.
- Window lid. A die-cut aperture in the lid panel shows the meal without the box being opened. Windows are listed as a standard finish option.
Tell the quote team which of the three you want, plus any closure detail such as a tuck flap or a tab lock, and it goes on the dieline before the proof is drawn.
Which material should you specify?
Material is a spec decision, not a fixed product line. These are the paperboard and corrugated stocks Teal prints on, with the caliper ranges they run in.

FSC-certified and recyclable options are available by specification, and printing uses soy and water-based inks. How is sizing handled?
There is no stock size chart to pick from. Every box is cut to your dieline, so sizing is made to your product, and the free dieline design service builds to the dimensions you send.
The way to get an accurate quote is to measure what actually goes in the box: the tray or portion footprint, the fill height you need with the lid closed, and how many compartments that footprint has to carry.
