Holiday Rush Packaging

Holiday packaging is rarely a printing problem. It is a backward-planning problem. If you know the date you must start shipping to customers, you can work out whether a rush window still clears it, and Teal can often run a qualified job from about 4 to 7 business days after proof approval. The move that saves the season is doing that arithmetic now rather than in the last week. Start with a rush review and you will get an honest read on your date before you commit artwork.

Plan backward from your ship date, not from the holiday

The date that governs everything is the day your packed orders have to leave, which is earlier than the holiday itself and earlier than the last carrier cutoff. Carriers publish their own seasonal cutoff dates each year, so check the current ones on the carrier's site rather than relying on last year's numbers. Once you have that date, subtract in this order:

• 2 to 5 business days for US delivery of your packaging, with express and economy options available.
• From about 4 to 7 business days for rush production after proof approval on a qualified ready-to-print job, quoted at rush review, or from about 7 business days after proof approval on a standard job, with complex or high-volume orders longer.
• Your own proof approval time.
• Artwork preparation, if files are not print ready yet.
• Whatever your own packing, kitting, and staging process needs once the boxes land.

That last line is the one that gets skipped. Packaging arriving on the day you start shipping is not the same as packaging arriving in time to be useful.

Why late-season complexity gets quoted long

The honest version: not every seasonal spec can be compressed. Foil stamping, embossing, debossing, spot UV, soft touch coating, windows, and intricate die-cuts each add a step, and steps do not disappear because a date is close. Rigid construction takes build time that a folding structure does not. High volumes take press and finishing time that scales with the run. When a job carries several of those at once, we quote a standard production window instead of a rush one, because a compressed schedule on a complex build is how orders arrive late and wrong at the same time.

What we can do instead is show you the tradeoff while you can still act on it. Dropping one finish, simplifying a structure, or splitting the order so the first wave ships on a rush window often turns an impossible date into a workable one. Those are decisions for now, not for December.

What qualifies a holiday job for a rush window

• Artwork is print ready, or close enough to finish on the free dieline we include.
• Dimensions and quantity are settled (minimum 50 units, or 100 and up for specialty rigid styles).
• Material direction is approved: kraft paperboard at 300 to 400gsm, white SBS at 14 to 18pt, corrugated E-flute or B-flute, or rigid chipboard at 1.5 to 2.5mm.
• The digital proof gets approved quickly, since timing is confirmed after proof approval.

Two revision rounds are included on every order, which gives a seasonal design room to close without a long proof cycle. Recyclable and FSC-certified options are available by specification, so if a seasonal SKU has a sustainability requirement, name it in the review rather than after the proof.

What to send with a rush request

• The date you must start shipping to customers, stated as a date.
• Interior dimensions in length by width by height, and what goes inside.
• Quantity, plus an alternate quantity if you want to compare volume pricing.
• Print-ready artwork, or your seasonal design direction, logo, and brand colors.
• Material direction, and any finish you consider non-negotiable versus nice to have.
• Ship-to address, including a 3PL or warehouse if that is where the packaging lands.

Naming which finishes are negotiable is the single most useful thing you can add. It lets us quote a version that clears your date next to the version you originally wanted.
