How do you ship vinyl records?
Take the record out of the jacket, put it in its inner sleeve, and place that sleeve alongside the jacket rather than inside it. Add stiffeners, then use a purpose-built record mailer. Shipping a record inside its jacket is what causes seam splits, and seam splits are the most common vinyl shipping damage there is.
Why does the record come out of the jacket?
A record inside its jacket presses outward against the seams every time the parcel is dropped or squeezed. The disc has mass and a hard edge; the jacket seam is glued paper. Over a few impacts the seam opens. Removing the disc and placing it beside the jacket, both inside the mailer, removes the load entirely.
This one habit prevents more damage than any amount of extra cushioning, and it costs nothing.

How do you pack step by step?
- Remove the disc from the jacket and check it is in a clean inner sleeve.
- Place the sleeved disc beside the jacket, not inside it.
- Add a stiffener on each face. Rigid board on both sides stops the whole package flexing, which is what dents corners.
- Bag the jacket if the cover art matters, to protect against moisture and scuffing.
- Seat everything in the record mailer so nothing can slide. A record that moves inside a mailer will find a corner.
- Seal all seams and label clearly. Mark it fragile and do not bend.
- Watch the heat. Vinyl warps in a hot vehicle or a hot mailbox. In summer, favour faster services and avoid leaving parcels in sun-exposed collection points.
How do you ship multiple LPs?
Use a mailer rated for the count, not a single-LP mailer stretched to fit. Stack the discs with their sleeves and jackets alternating so the spines do not all bunch on one edge, and keep the stack tight. Loose stacks shift, and a shifting stack is how box sets arrive with split corners.
Weight climbs faster than sellers expect: multiple LPs plus board plus stiffeners moves you into a different rate band, so check the number before you set a shipping price.
