What is multipack assembly and bundling?
Bundling combines several units into one sellable item: a 3-pack, a variety pack, or a retailer-specific bundle with its own barcode. Teal Packaging supplies the sleeve, carton or shrink film that holds the bundle together, then assembles, labels and cartons the multipacks at its West Chicago, Illinois fulfillment center.
A multipack is a merchandising decision before it is a packing one. The bundle needs its own barcode, its own dimensions for the retailer or marketplace listing, and a wrap that survives handling without hiding the products. Getting the printed component and the assembly from one vendor means the sleeve is sized to the real stacked dimensions rather than an estimate.
Bundle formats and what each is good for
| Format | How it holds | Best for | Print surface |
|---|---|---|---|
| Printed sleeve | Band wrapped around the stack | Retail shelf multipacks, gift 3-packs | Full color, both faces |
| Multipack carton | Fully enclosed box | Variety packs, fragile units, ecommerce | Full color, plus interior |
| Shrink film | Heat-shrunk clear film | Cans, jars, high-volume grocery | Label applied over the film |
| Shrink sleeve on the unit | Full-wrap decorated film | Bottles and containers with curved sides | 360 degrees on the unit |
| Header card and bag | Bagged with a printed card stapled or folded over | Small parts, accessories, peg hooks | Card front and back |
| Tray with overwrap | Corrugated tray, film over | Club store and pallet display | Tray sides |
Multipack or kit: which do you actually need?
| Multipack or bundle | Kit | |
|---|---|---|
| Contents | Several units, usually the same SKU or a fixed variety set | Different components that make one experience |
| Identity | Sold as one SKU with its own barcode | Assembled to a bill of materials, often one-off per campaign |
| Where it goes | Retail shelf, marketplace listing, pallet display | A named recipient, a subscriber, an event |
| Repeatability | Runs continuously against forecast | Runs in waves against a list |
| Read this instead | You are on the right page | kitting and assembly services |
Many programs need both, and they are quoted differently because a multipack is a repeated fixed build and a kit is a variable one. Say which you mean at quote and the line items will match.
Running bundles at volume
Bundling is a per-touch cost applied to a repeated build, so it rewards forecast. The two levers that move the number are how many units go into the bundle and whether the wrap is a sleeve, a carton or film. Teal can hold the printed sleeves or cartons in storage and assemble against releases, which keeps a retailer promotion from forcing a full print run every time.
Volume pricing runs from about $0.44 per unit at scale on the printed components, with free dieline design, two revision rounds and free US shipping on the packaging order. Production runs from about 7 business days after proof approval, longer for complex or high-volume orders, plus 2 to 5 business days for US delivery. Assembly is scheduled at quote from the bundle count and the touch count. Minimums stay low enough to trial a format: from 50 units, or 100 and up for specialty rigid.
Where to go next
- The sleeve: cardboard sleeve packaging and shrink sleeves.
- The multipack carton: corrugated shipping boxes.
- The bundle barcode: serialized labeling and kit numbering.
- Kits rather than multipacks: kitting and assembly services.
- Bundles going to Amazon: Amazon FBA prep and labeling.
- Pick, pack and dispatch: custom packaging fulfillment and 3PL.
How to start
Send the unit dimensions and weight, how many units per bundle, whether the variety set is fixed or rotating, where the bundles ship, and your annual volume. That is enough to propose a wrap format and quote the print and the assembly together. To see board and print quality first, the sample kit ships for $19.99 and the cost is credited toward a first custom order. When you are ready, request a quote.
