The gusset is the thing that decides your date
Everything that makes a stand-up pouch different from a flat bag lives in the bottom. The gusset is a folded panel sealed into the base so the pouch opens into a standing footprint when it is filled. That fold has to be laid out, sealed, and held to tolerance, and the width of the gusset relative to the pouch face controls how stable the finished pouch is when it stands.
For a rush job, the practical consequence is this: a pouch built on a footprint we already run schedules on the shortest path, because the gusset layout is settled. A pouch that needs a new face width, a new gusset depth, or a different fill height needs that layout worked out before anything prints, and that step is what pushes some pouch jobs into the standard production window of from about 7 business days after proof approval. What affects rush feasibility on a stand-up pouch
- Gusset and footprint. A known face width and gusset depth is the shortest route. A new footprint adds a layout and setup step before the press.
- Zipper track. A resealable zipper is the most common pouch add-on and it adds a converting operation. It is frequently still compatible with a shorter window, but it is confirmed at review, not assumed.
- Tear notch and corners. A tear notch above the zipper and rounded die-cut top corners are small operations individually. Combined with a zipper and a window they start to add up.
- Windows. A die-cut window in the pouch face is available, and it adds a registration step because the window has to land where the artwork says it lands.
- Finish stack and quantity. Matte or gloss lamination is routine. Foil stamping and spot UV each add a pass. High volumes may need the standard window regardless of how clean the files are.
Materials and finishes for pouches
Stand-up pouches are built from flexible film, and mylar is the film we run most often on this format, printed full color with soy and water-based inks. If your project also needs paperboard or corrugated components, Teal runs kraft paperboard at 300 to 400gsm, white SBS at 14 to 18pt, corrugated E-flute and B-flute, rigid chipboard at 1.5 to 2.5mm, tin, and vinyl. FSC-certified and recyclable options are available by specification rather than on every material, so name the requirement up front and we will confirm what applies to your pouch.
Finishes available across our formats include foil stamping, embossing, debossing, spot UV, soft-touch, die-cuts, and windows. On a pouch the working set is matte or gloss lamination, soft-touch, spot UV, foil stamping, and a die-cut window. All of them can appear on a rush job. The honest constraint is how many you stack: one finish on a settled footprint is straightforward, three finishes on a new footprint is a standard-window conversation.
How a pouch differs from a flat mylar bag on schedule
A flat bag has three seals and no base. A stand-up pouch adds the gusset fold and its seals, so it carries one more structural operation. If your deadline is very tight and the standing footprint is not essential to how the product sells, ask about rush mylar bags at review.
