E-flute or B-flute: pick one before you ask for a date
Corrugated board is a fluted medium sandwiched between liners, and the flute profile is the first spec that matters. Teal runs E-flute and B-flute on shipping boxes.
E-flute is the thinner of the two, with a finer flute pitch and a flatter outer liner, which is why it takes detailed full-color print more cleanly and why it suits retail-facing shippers and ecommerce boxes where the box is part of the unboxing. B-flute is thicker, with a coarser profile, which puts more board between the product and the outside world and suits heavier contents and longer transit chains.
For a rush, the point is that this choice sits upstream of everything. Board has to be on hand before a die can run, and a job specified as "corrugated, we will pick the flute later" is a job that has not started. Naming E-flute or B-flute in your first message is worth more to your date than any other single decision. What affects rush feasibility on a corrugated shipper
- Structure. A regular slotted container, the standard shipping box with meeting flaps, is the most schedulable corrugated build. A die-cut mailer style with a tuck front and side wings is common and still frequently rushable. A custom structure with a new die is a new tool, and tooling is a scheduled step.
- Flute. E-flute and B-flute schedule differently depending on board availability at the time you order. This is confirmed at review rather than promised in advance.
- Print coverage. A one or two color print on a kraft liner is the shortest path. Full-flood full-color coverage across all panels is available and adds press time.
- Finish. Die-cuts and windows are available on corrugated. Foil stamping, embossing, debossing, spot UV, and soft-touch are available across our formats and each adds a pass; on a shipper they are less common and more likely to affect a tight schedule.
- Size and quantity. Very large box footprints and very high-volume runs both eat press and die time, and either can move a job to the standard production window of from about 7 business days after proof approval.
Strength is a structure question, not a rush question
If your contents are heavy or fragile, the honest answer is that you should not compress the specification to protect a date. Board choice, flute, and structure exist to get a product to a customer intact, and a rushed box that arrives crushed has not saved anyone time.
